I met Jana professionally for the first time in 2014, when she supported the team of our School Without Borders project in a teaching and methodological role. Jana brought both creativity and precision to her work and independently led a team of lecturers with whom she prepared and led project days at primary schools. I met Jana and Gopal through EduCoach’s Formative Assessment course. This course made me realize how important it is to set goals for each lesson, to give instructions to children simply and clearly and to create your own criteria for individual topics together in class – as well as provide evidence that students understand or vice versa. When Jana joined our school and approached me at the first staff meeting, I knew right away that I really liked her views on teaching and student assessment. After some time, I signed up for the “Formative Assessment” course, which Jana led as a lecturer. The way she led the course was particularly engaging. Jana always gives excellent advice, and she is very creative and kind with it. Her classroom visits were a great benefit. I was able to immediately use the ideas and advice in my teaching and so the classroom became more effective and the children were able to experience greater success and progress. In addition, they were able to give evidence of their learning and have become more independent. Thanks to Jana, I also got to know myself better. I have known Gopal as an English teacher since September 2008. With a break of four years, I have been working with him since then – not only as a teacher, but in the last four years also in the role of teaching methodology and teacher trainer. Gopal has also played a significant role in the creation of the curriculum preparing our school’s students to study the International Baccalaureate program. In all these roles, Gopal has proven to be a tremendous asset to our school. I would particularly highlight his work with teachers: he can work very well with both larger groups and individuals, providing specific teachers with feedback on their lessons and helping them to make their teaching more effective. I’d definitely recommend Gopal as a teacher and as a professional in the field of further education of educators.
I first met Jana when the school I am teaching English at asked her to observe & assist my teaching. I describe myself as an “accidental teacher” doing so more through being English than through academic qualification. Jana observed my lessons on several occasions. After each lesson we sat & discussed my strengths, my plan, & my areas for improvement, helping me to improve the teaching experience for both myself & my pupils. Each time this was followed up with a written observation report, useful tips & links, and a summary of our post lesson discussion, very thorough & structured, and best of all, invaluable!
My two big areas for improvement were classroom management & lesson plan with the focus on engagement & length of activity. It was obvious that Jana has gained years of incredible experience & genuinely loves assisting others in becoming better teachers. Her help has been invaluable, both myself & my pupils have greatly benefitted from her experience. I would now definitely class Jana as not only a trusted resource, but also as a friend.
